Our Client, a top caliber and high quality food company, is again growing and now seeking a Sanitation Manager as an addition to staff.


Job Summary

Manages day to day tasks of team members engaged in sanitation duties.  Inspects environmental conditions and equipment for compliance to company standards and ensures all state and federal regulatory sanitation standards are adhered to. Works cross functionally with plant leadership and plant personnel on sanitation issues, and provides assessments on modifications to equipment, plant design, lighting, ventilation, or standard work to refine company sanitation standards.  Writes required reports pertaining to routine inspections, sanitation deviations, and counter measures implemented to remedy deficiencies.

Directs the workforce by providing a daily schedule for the Sanitation Department and any other duties assigned by management. Maintains documentation, communication, and feedback with team members to ensure they are aware of their expectations. Conducts and documents daily, weekly, and/or monthly team meetings pertaining sanitation activities and ensures company initiatives are communicated. Enforces company policy pertaining to areas such as safety, code of conduct, attendance, CGMPs, and all Sanitation Department requirements.


Maintains a program of inspecting equipment and the environment, inventory and ordering of approved chemicals and replacement parts and supplies applicable to plant sanitation. Conducts routine daily post cleaning inspections and administers microbiological sampling as needed. Updates and evaluates the Sanitation Manual and Master Sanitation Schedule to reflect changes in new equipment, equipment design or changes in the cleaning process or cleaning chemicals.


Develops and monitors the supply and labor budget for the Sanitation Department. Manages third party contract service for sanitation chemicals ensure delivery of the contract and drive for continuous improvement.


Develops and implements training and cross training programs for Sanitation team members. Conducts training to reflect any changes in plant programs.

Job Requirements

Education, licensures, certifications, prior work experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, travel, supervision (etc.):


  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Food Science, or related field preferred. May substitute for experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Sanitation, Food Safety, or related field.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment and systems including maintenance activities.
  • Experience in techniques and tools for process improvement preferred (Six Sigma, SPC).
  • Troubleshooting, data analysis, and investigative skills required.
  • Knowledge of government regulatory requirements pertaining to food sanitation (GFSI, FSMA).
  • Sound report writing, interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated strength in setting an example for others.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize one’s own time consistent with the needs of the business.

Physical environment/working conditions:

  • To stand on your feet constantly during your shift and work in wet and dry environments that vary from cold to warm dependent on business area.
  • Must be able to repetitively lift to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift/move up to 100 lbs.
  • Position requires frequent lifting, reaching, climbing, pulling, stooping, bending, kneeling and use of ladders.
  • Maintain constant mental focus and constantly be aware of surroundings.
